Extra - Curricular Activities

The extra-curricular program in Shalhevet is the school's ruach (excitement). The programs that we have in Shalhevet are created with intent in order to facilitate achdus (unity) between students, helping them form relationships in a positive way. The extra-curricular activities generate the development of responsibility and leadership and allow our students the opportunity to express their creativity and individuality.

Our extra-curricular program includes, but is not at all limited to, the following:
  • Field Trips
  • Friday Night Onegs
  • Shabbatonim
  • Yemei Iyun (Days of Inspiration)
  • Rosh Chodesh Breakfasts and Lunches
  • Chagigos
  • Clubs (Birthday, Sewing)
  • Production
  • Yearbook
  • Weekend Retreat
  • Colour War
  • Basketball Team
  • Big/Little Sister Program with VHA

We have a vibrant Student Council whose specialty is keeping school days fun and exciting
.  Just a few of the programs that our Student Council runs:
  • Monthly theme with surprise activities, treats and games.
  • Shabbos Treats: every few Thursday evenings, the girls gather to bake and spend time together. The following day, the morning break is filled with music and treats, creating a special atmosphere of Erev Shabbos, even while in school!
  • Kugel fundraiser: planning, shopping, recipe-hunting, cooking, and delivering!

Mishmeres at Shalhevet has the responsibility of planning growth-oriented activities that relate to various times of the Jewish Year. Some activities Mishmeres has run:
  • Organizing Tishrei Yom Iyun
  • Dreidel decorating for Chanukah
  • Programming for Asara B'Teves

Our Chessed initiative requires each student to spend a minimum of 30 hours over the year volunteering their time giving back to the Vancouver Community that has given them so much. Shalhevet students are involved in both helping individuals and the Vancouver Community at large. The majority of our students have taken on roles as T-Jex Buddies, mentoring Jewish public school students in the afternoon Hebrew school. This gives our young women the opportunity to learn valuable teaching skills, while providing these public school children with Hebrew skills and a Jewish education. Our students are also active in their shuls, running and supporting programming. In addition, we have students volunteering at nursing homes, visiting the elderly, and helping busy mothers.
