Our WHY Statement
To motivate students so that they will become independent thinkers, leaders, and life-long learners,
living an inspired, Torah-true life.
living an inspired, Torah-true life.
What is a WHY Statement, and why did we create one?
Shalhevet had its first staff meeting of the school year proper on Tuesday night, October 24, 2017. In my time at Shalhevet I have not been to a meeting quite like this one. This meeting was different not because it included faculty from both the general studies program and the Judaics program, but because we worked together on a overall vision of the school in the form of a WHY Statement. A WHY statement is similar to a mission statement, but differs in that it is an appeal to the heart. It is not about what we do, or how we do it, but why we come to work everyday. I was so proud to be part of the camaraderie displayed as we each shared what personally resonates within us as teachers in the school, and collaborated on our WHY: To motivate students so that they become independent thinkers, leaders, and life-long learners, living an inspired, Torah-true life.
